The High Performance Computing Centre is a research and service institution affiliated to the University of Stuttgart. It has been the
first national supercomputing centre in Germany and is offering services to academic users and industry.
HLRS research and operation focus is oriented towards the operation of supercomputers, teaching and training in distributed systems, software engineering and programming models.
USTUTT-HLRS has a long history in cooperation with international partners from industry and research on existing and new technologies such as cloud Computing.
USTUTT-HLRS is participating actively in the SaaS / SOA movement and has been doing so since the advent of the Grid. Current research foci continuing along this line include aspects related to cloud computing, distributed data management, future models for distributed execution, quality of service maintenance, virtual collaboration and organisation etc.
